How You Can Help
The Greater New Bedford Community Health
Foundation needs the support of people like you to help make our community
a healthier, dynamic, and resilient place where everyone can live and work. To
that end we offer many different opportunities for you to personally make a
difference. You can help us by lending a hand or by lending us a dollar. To
that end we have a variety of options for you to choose from.
Ways of giving:
Cash: A cash gift to the foundation
is chosen by the majority of donors and entitles you to the most generous
federal income tax deduction available for charitable contributions.
You may deduct up to fifty percent of your adjusted gross income for gifts
of cash and carry any amount over that figure forward for up to five additional
years, checks should be made payable to the greater New Bedford Community
Health Foundation. You can make a cash contribution by using either our
online donation form or printable mail-in
form found on this page below.
Pledges: Pledges to the greater New
Bedford Community Health Foundation can be paid over three to five years. A
pledge may allow you to contribute more significantly to the foundation than
might otherwise be possible, while extending tax advantages over a period of

Marketable Securities: A
gift of appreciated securities that you have held for more than one year is
frequently the most economical way to give. You will be eligible to take a
federal income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the stock on the
date of the gift, and you will not have to recognize the appreciation as

Real Estate: Appreciated marketable
real estate is another asset with which you make a significant gift to the
foundation. A gift of real estate will entitle you to a federal income tax
deduction equal to the fair market value of the property. You will need to
substantiate this value with an independent appraisal. You can deduct an amount
up to thirty percent of your adjusted gross income; any excess may be carried
over for up to five additional years. A personal residence or farm offers
another giving option. You may give a remainder interest in the property that
allows you to continue residency and maintain the deduction equal to the
present value of the foundation's remainder interest. A gift of real estate
must be reviewed in advance by the foundation finance committee. For more

Other Assets: You may wish to
consider gifts of closely held stock, or life insurance. Any of these gifts
will entitle you to an income tax deduction equal to its fair market value on
the date of the gift, which you may take for up to thirty percent of your

Naming Opportunities: You may want
to have your contribution go towards the naming of an examination room, piece
of equipment or furniture, children's books, waiting area, brick, wall of honor
